Manual entries
Record the money TrueRoyalties cannot read on its own — a book fair, a direct sale, an advance — so your net profit covers your whole business.
What it is for
TrueRoyalties connects to about twenty platforms. It will never connect to a book fair, to a reader who paid you by bank transfer, to an advance from a publisher, or to the bookshop down the road.
Manual entries is where you type those in. Once they are in, they count everywhere a connected platform counts: your dashboard, your books, your storefronts, your net profit.
Step 1 — declare your platform
A platform here is simply where the money came from: Colmar book fair, Etsy, Gumroad, My publisher. Open Manual entries, click New platform, give it a name and a colour.
The colour is what tells it apart in your charts. You can declare up to 20.
You can rename a platform whenever you like — its whole history follows.
Step 2 — add what it earned, and what it cost
Add revenue asks for the date, the book, the country (or no country, for a direct sale), the format, how many copies, and how much you received.
Add a cost is shorter: a date, an amount, and what it was for. A cost needs neither a book nor a platform — an ISBN batch or your accountant belongs to neither.
Leave Units at 0 for an advance or a lump sum. Money with no copies attached is still money.
If the book is not in your catalogue — because we do not read the platform it sells on — pick Add a title in the book list and type its name.
Where it shows up
Everywhere. The entry becomes an ordinary line of revenue or cost, so it lands in your dashboard totals, in Books, in Marketplaces, in Comparison, and in the Platforms filter beside Amazon and the rest.
Importing a file
If a year of fairs is already in a spreadsheet, use Import a file. Download the template, fill it in, and drop it back. CSV and Excel both work, and a French or Spanish "save as CSV" is read correctly.
Every line is checked before anything is saved, and a line that cannot be read is listed with its number and the reason. Tick Replace this platform's existing entries over the same dates when you are re-importing a corrected file — without it, importing twice counts everything twice.
Two things it deliberately does not do
- It does not change your plan. Your billing tier is decided by the platforms we read, never by what you type.
- It does not appear on your Verified page. That page exists to prove figures you did not write yourself, so it publishes only what came from a connected platform.
